MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis Police is informing the public that the inclement weather crash policy is still in effect as we anticipate more incoming ice and less-than-desirable road conditions.

The following rules are in full effect under the MPD’s inclement weather crash policy if you happen to be involved in a crash with minimal injuries:

  • Exchange information which includes: name, address, phone number, insurance information, and vehicle information, including the tag number.
  • Take photos of the involved vehicles, including the tag.
  • Both drivers should call the same precinct (the nearest) or the MPD Traffic office within five working days.
  • An officer will complete the needed report.

Road conditions remain slick. MPD urges the public to stay off the roadways unless it is necessary to travel.

If you encounter an intersection where the traffic light is not working, it should be treated as a four-way stop. While traveling, please remain focused on the roadway.

If you encounter first responders working, please slow down and move over to allow the first responder’s room to work safely.

In addition to these rules, MPD cautions the public to act wisely in case of an outage.

During a power outage, if you have a generator, please keep it outdoors to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. If using a portable generator, secure it to a fixed object outside.
