Memphis college offers free classes for in-demand careers
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Southwest Tennessee Community College is offering tuition-free training for in-demand careers.
While the classes are non-credit, attendees may qualify for Prior Learning Assessment credit at Southwest.
The programs available include:
- Medical Billing & Coding
- Dental Assisting
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
- Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)
- Welding
- Certified Production Technician (CPT)
- Industrial Maintenance
- Medical Device Finishing
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Also: HiSet - High School Equivalency Diploma
These programs are offered by Southwest’s Workforce and Community Solutions department.
Registration is underway, and classes will begin soon.
Graduates of the training will receive a completion certificate from the college and have the opportunity to pass the national assessment to gain an industry credential.
Participants must be at least 18 years old and a resident of Shelby or Fayette counties in Tennessee.
Applicants must attend one of the upcoming information and vetting sessions, all held at a Southwest location:
- Thursday, January 18, at 9 a.m.
- Monday, January 22, at 5 p.m.
- Wednesday, January 24, at 9 a.m.
- Thursday, January 25, at 5 p.m.
- Monday, January 29, at 9 a.m.
- Wednesday, January 31, at 9 a.m.
