MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - With winter weather resulting in cold temperatures and freezing rain, weather-related deaths have risen in Shelby County and the entire state of Tennessee.

The Tennessee Department of Health has confirmed 19 weather-related fatalities.

There were seven in Shelby County, one in Hickman County, one in Madison County, two in Washington County, one in Carroll County, one in Knox County, one in Van Buren County, one in Lauderdale County, one in Henry County, two in Marshall County, and one in Roane County.

To assure the safety of all residents in the Shelby County area, the Tennessee Highway Patrol will continue to provide motorist assistance, traffic control, and support other law enforcement responsibilities.
