MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Reportedly, five people have died due to the cold temperatures in the Shelby County area.

The Tennesee Department of Health confirmed that five deaths in Shelby County have been linked to the harsh weather conditions.

There have been 14 weather-related deaths in the state of Tennessee.

Warming centers are still open and available to those in need of a warm place to stay during the winter storms.

Most warming centers are gender-separated for safety purposes.

Options are available for shelter.

This includes the hospitality hub in Downtown Memphis - which we’ve seen more than 300 women and children use in one night.

The Dave Wells Community Center in North Memphis is still available for single Men.

There’s also “Room At The Inn” hosted by local churches, and those vary by night.

Also, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Senior Services is doing wellness checks on Thursday.

Deputies along with volunteers go from door to door checking on the elderly.

Last year the Community Alliance for the Homeless conducted the annual point-in-time count - where they learn to see how many unhoused people are living in Memphis and Shelby County.

According to their report from last year, they found nearly 1,300 people including men, women, and children.
