FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY: Dangerous storms to move through the Mid-South Friday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Intense and widespread severe thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening across the Mid-South.

TIMING: The window of opportunity for severe weather will generally be between 3 PM and Midnight as storms move West to East.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has outlined the entire Mid-South for a risk of severe weather.

Most of the Action News 5 viewing area is outlined in a very rare “High Risk” (Level 5/5) while a few areas in eastern Arkansas and west Tennessee remain under “Moderate Risk” (Level 4/5).

THREATS: At least a few long-track, strong to potentially violent tornadoes are probable

Swaths of intense damaging wind gusts along with very large hail are expected as well.

A WIND ADVISORY is in effect from 7 AM Friday to 1 AM Saturday as South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph expected.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.
