Ex-leasing office employee scammed tenants via CashApp, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis police say a former leasing office employee scammed people out of their rent money.
A woman says she received a text message as a reminder to pay her rent. The texter said she could send her rent money to a CashApp account, which she did.
The leasing office at the apartments on Forest Hill Court said they never received the money, and recognized the number as a former employee.
Multiple other tenants say they were victims of the same scam.
Police tracked down the CashApp account to Erica Norris.
Norris is charged with theft of property and computer crime.
