MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Memphis Police Department is searching for a man they say shot at a vehicle involved in the theft of his car at a Parkway Village gas station in December, fatally injuring a backseat passenger.

Police say the fatal shooting took place at a gas station in the 2700 block of Getwell Road on December 30.

That morning, police say a white Infiniti pulled up beside a silver Toyota that was left running at a gas pump with no driver in sight. Police say one of the four men inside the Infiniti got out, jumped into the Toyota, and drove off.

As the Infiniti tailed the stolen car off the property, police say the Toyota’s owner walked out of the store and fired several shots at the Infiniti, striking the backseat passenger.

The victim was dropped off at Methodist South Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The owner of the Toyota is now wanted on suspicion of homicide.

Police say he was last seen wearing a dark-colored jacket, a white hat, blue jeans, and black flip-flops with white socks.

No arrests have been made.

Those with information are asked to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
