MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis police arrested a 14-year-old after he allegedly committed multiple carjackings and armed robberies.

The teen is charged with eight counts of carjacking, ten counts of employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, one count of attempted carjacking, 11 counts of aggravated robbery, seven counts of aggravated assault, five counts of attempted aggravated robbery, two counts of evading arrest in a vehicle, one count of theft of property $10,000-$60,000, and three counts of curfew violation.

According to MPD, the teen began his carjackings on December 17 and continued to rob victims until January 3.

On December 24 alone, the teen is accused of committing four crimes. In one of those, police say the 14-year-old and two others were caught on camera at the Dollar Tree on Getwell Road approaching a woman with a gun and demanding her car.

There is no information on the other suspects.

“I get it. Situations like that where the same person is doing a whole string of offenses, it’s a great threat to public safety and we need to crack down on it,” said Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy.

Mulroy could only share limited details on the juvenile’s case.

Currently, the teen is facing 46 charges. They include carjacking, aggravated robbery, and curfew violations.

“Obviously, the people have a repeated string of offenses we need to take very seriously, and we will prosecute very vigorously,” said Mulroy.

Memphis police arrested the teen on January 5 and found him with a gun.

The teen had a detention hearing Monday and was detained. He has another hearing on January 18.
