MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Final results are in for the Memphis Municipal runoff election.

There were 13 city council seats on the ballot for the 2023 Memphis Municipal Election. All races had clear winners except three, which went to runoff Thursday.

Those seats include District 2, 3 and 7.

The winners are:

  • Jerri Green for District 2
  • Pearl Eva Walker for District 3
  • Michalyn Easter-Thomas for District 7

The races for Districts 2 and 3 were very tight, however, voters in District 7 were pretty decisive, with incumbent Councilwoman Michalyn Easter-Thomas winning about 65% of the vote.

The Shelby County Election Commission says voter turnout was about 4% for the runoff election overall.

Action News 5 caught up with Councilwoman Easter-Thomas at her watch party earlier in the night. She said she is thankful to the voters but does wish voter turnout was higher.

Easter-Thomas is looking forward to four more years on city council and says she already has plans in place.

“Actually, looking forward to a surprise piece of legislation that’s going to be coming in the new year by adding a new division to the city, to really get towards helping an ignored section of our population,” she said. “I look forward to bringing all of the collaborators on, there are nonprofits on the ground, they are C4s on the ground that are ready to push on this legislation to be passed and added to next year’s budget.”

Councilwoman Easter-Thomas wouldn’t say where those plans were for, but we should find out in the new year.
