SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Gray News) – Two teens in California are being praised for saving the lives of six abandoned puppies.

According to the Santa Clara Fire Department, firefighters answered a knock on the door Sunday night and found two teenage boys asking for help, holding a plastic bin with a litter of puppies.

The boys explained that they found the bin on the side of the road – closed with a plastic lid – near an elementary school.

The teens scooped up the box of puppies and drove to multiple vet offices for help, but because it was a Sunday night, all the offices were closed.

They decided to ask firefighters for help.

“Thank you to these young folks for helping!” the fire department wrote in a Facebook post. “The temperature had dropped significantly with the sunset, and we are certain that their decision to act and find help created a positive outcome for the pups!”

Fire crews called Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority, who took in the abandoned puppies to get them the care that they need.
