LOS ANGELES (KCAL) - In California – a good Samaritan helped rescue a woman who was trapped in her car for days after she drove over a cliff.

The rescue happened this past weekend.

“I heard her yelling help! Help!”, Chris Ayres said.

Ayres said he found the woman trapped inside a mangled car in a canyon near Mount Baldy.

The woman’s truck reportedly flipped down an embankment after she swerved to avoid hitting a deer in the dark.

Ayres said he was fishing nearby in San Antonio Creek when he followed the cries for help.

According to Ayres, he found the woman standing inside the vehicle with her head poking out of the window.

“There was not much left of the truck. It was mangled pretty badly. I don’t know how she survived. I saw the steering wheel and it was folded like a taco. Her head must have hit that,” Ayres said.

The woman suffered head injuries and was stuck in her vehicle for four very cold nights.

“She had bowls set up trying to collect rainwater I think the night before it hailed. She’s one tough girl,” Ayres said.

Ayres said he tried to call 911 but there was no cellphone service. So, he stopped a Forest Service truck, and they sent in rescue crews.

Rescuers said the woman would not have survived another night.

“It’s got to be God. I happened to stop at that one spot, almost like fate,” Ayers said.

Ayers knows what it’s like to need a miracle. He said 10 years ago he was shot while hunting in Lytle Creek and he needed to be airlifted to a hospital.

“I’ve been in her shoes. So, the whole thing was kind of traumatic. I’m just so glad she made it,” he said.

Officials said the woman had extra supplies in her truck that also helped her survive the ordeal. She is currently recovering from a broken ankle.
