Firefighters rescue black lab after she falls through ice on frozen lake

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. (CNN) – A heartwarming story is coming out of Michigan on a cold winter day.

On Tuesday, authorities in Ottawa County rescued a dog after it fell through a thin layer of ice at a lake.

The owner tried unsuccessfully to rescue the black lab, whose name is Hazel.

The Georgetown Charter Township Fire Department answered the call and came to the rescue.

The fire department’s dive team used ropes and surface rescue suits to enter the water and get Hazel back on dry land.

Officials said she is making a good recovery.
