(CNN) - Police have arrested four fraternity members following the investigation into a dead longhorn that was placed outside an Oklahoma State University fraternity house.

Luke Ackerley, Brody Shelby, Andrew King and Bennett Fady were charged with misdemeanor unlawful removal and disposal of a carcass.

The longhorn was found Dec. 1, 2023, on the eve of the Big 12 championship game in which Oklahoma State University was playing against the University of Texas Longhorns.

Members of the FarmHouse fraternity, where the animal was found, told police they thought the longhorn was left by a rival fraternity, Alpha Gamma Rho, as a prank.

Police looked at surveillance video and saw three people in a white Ford truck with a trailer dump the longhorn onto the lawn of the FarmHouse fraternity.

Police believe a large party took place the night before on a farm where the longhorn had lived.

Law enforcement learned through a necropsy report the cow died of disease and had not been killed.

All four men have pleaded not guilty.
