TEQUESTA, Fla. (WPEC) – An aspiring politician in Tequesta, Florida, is now behind bars facing multiple charges.

It’s alleged that Julie Mitchell used a large kitchen knife in an attempt to kill her husband and 17-year-old daughter.

The 54-year-old was in court Friday morning in Tequesta, which is near West Palm Beach.

According to court documents, Mitchell, who is running for a village council seat, told police her husband, daughter and their dog were “the devil.”

The stabbing attack happened Thursday morning at the family’s home.

Her husband reportedly suffered a slash to his upper left arm.

The victims were taken to the hospital for treatment. He and the daughter were reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.

Mitchell was placed in jail without bail.
