State of Emergency declared in Shelby County due to winter weather

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Shelby County is under a state of emergency as the Mid-South deals with winter weather.

Snowfall began blanketing the Mid-South on Sunday afternoon, falling throughout the evening and on Monday morning.

Some areas have experienced more than five inches of snow.

In response to the arctic weather and snow accumulation of 4-plus inches, Memphis Mayor Paul Young signed a city-wide State of Emergency declaration on January 15, 2024.

This declaration allows the City to adjust departmental services to meet our community’s current needs.

Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris declared a State of Emergency in response.

Travel conditions remain unsafe with many of the roads across the Mid-South covered in frozen precipitation.
