COVINGTON, Tenn. (WMC) - The Tipton County Board of Education will receive $17,338,355 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to rebuild a school destroyed by a tornado.

The school will be a replacement for Crestview Middle School, which was hit by a tornado in March 2023.

An additional $10.3 million will go towards rebuilding from insurance payouts.

“The storms that devastated Covington last Spring also destroyed the city’s Crestview Middle School, creating both a physical and emotional hole in the community,” Congressman Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) said. “I have urged cooperation between federal, state and local officials and worked to help ensure this funding could be received. Covington needs a new Crestview Middle School and this promising federal funding will soon make that commitment a reality.”
