Meteorologist Sagay Galindo is a native of Chesapeake, Virginia, but as a military spouse “home is where the Navy takes you.”
Sagay has had the honor of being able to forecast various types of weather from the east coast to the west. Her career started at WIS in Columbia, South Carolina. Prior to joining the Action News 5 First Alert Weather Team she also worked at WWBT NBC 12 in Richmond, Virginia, WAVY News 10 in Portsmouth, Virginia, KGTV in San Diego, California and WCSC Live 5 in Charleston, South Carolina.
During her time on the east coast she tracked several hurricanes and nor'easters that threatened the area. Sagay was very busy forecasting in 2005, which was the most active hurricane season on record. There was a record of 28 tropical cyclones that year and 15 of those cyclones became hurricanes. Aside from hurricanes, Sagay also forecasted and tracked several nor'easters that threatened the east coast. One nor’easter of note was called “snowpacalypse,” which shattered several snowfall records across the east coast.
Sagay is also no stranger to severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. She has tracked numerous tornadoes, especially during the spring with the battle between air masses. Sagay also recalls how sometimes a stalled out low pressure system can be as devastating as some of the hurricanes that hit the coast. Stalled out to slow-moving low pressure systems tend to produce major flooding, which she tracked at historic levels in South Carolina.
In her spare time, Sagay enjoys spending time with her husband, her three daughters and her son. She also enjoys running. She has completed a full marathon in Athens, Greece and four half marathons. She hopes to run the Memphis half marathon in the future. Sagay has also taught Zumba for more than seven years. She really enjoys working with kids and teaching choreography. She and her family are looking forward to eating some world famous barbecue and enjoying all the southern hospitality in the Mid-South.
Expect well below average conditions for the rest of the weekend and week ahead with snowfall starting into the back half of Sunday.
An area of low pressure will bring snow into the area by tomorrow afternoon and evening. Snow will begin between 3 and 6PM for most.
-Today will be a dry with some sunshine and highs a little warmer. The pattern will turn active again as rain will arrive on Monday and another system will impact the Mid-South to end the week.
A few light showers and patchy fog for some this morning. Showers will taper off and fog will clear this morning but clouds will linger and temperatures will remain in the mid 40s.
This last day of 2023 will be warmer, with highs in the mid 50s. However, the warmer temps will be brief as a cold front will move across the area today and will reinforce some colder air that we will feel as we start 2024.
Low pressure that brought showers and a few flakes yesterday has moved out, which will give us a quiet end to 2023.
Clouds will thicken up as we go through the day. There could be a shower or two this morning and afternoon, but the bulk of the rain will arrive this evening and overnight as a cold front track across the Mid-South.
The pattern will be unsettled through Christmas Day. An area of low pressure and an attendant cold front will move through the Mid-South Monday bringing rain for much of the Mid-South Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
A dry pattern will be in place today through Thursday but temperatures are going to be chilly and below average to start the week.
A weak cold front will bring periods of showers and windy conditions to the Mid-South through early evening.
A strong cold front ushered in strong to severe storms across the Mid-South yesterday, thankfully a much calmer pattern has emerged today.
Periods of heavy rain and storms today and a few storms could be strong to severe. A cold front will moves through the Mid-South today and storms could fire up through evening.
Clouds will continue to build today ahead of a developing system that will bring rain late this afternoon and tonight.
Cloudy skies and a few showers to start this Sunday morning. A spotty shower could linger into the afternoon but most of the rain should end by midday but clouds will likely persist.
It will be a chilly weekend with highs in the low 50s all weekend.
It will be dry today with temperatures just slightly above average in the mid 60s. We will start with mostly sunny skies but clouds will increase this afternoon and thicken up tonight.
-A dry weekend behind a front that brought rain yesterday and another front next week will bring more significant and much needed rain.
Temperatures will inch up a little more today and we will see a good mix of sun and clouds the next several days.
Temperatures will feel more like where we should be for this time of year with highs continuing in the 60s today although, a touch cooler.
A few warm winter days doesn't mean the end to wintry weather
Mainly sunny again today and temperatures will come in a little higher this afternoon. The pattern will stay warm and dry through the middle of this week.
A pleasant weekend is on tap with temperatures warming up into the 70s and it won’t be as cold at night.
Dry and cooler today as winds turn more north to easterly behind the front that swept through yesterday. The front will provide cooler temperatures with highs in the 70s but the 80s will return tomorrow.
Temperatures will once again climb above average this afternoon but this time we will be near record highs. Highs today will climb into the mid to upper 80s and the record for today is 89 degrees which was set back in 1947.
Lots of clouds today along with temperatures only climbing mostly into the upper 50s but a few areas could reach the low 60s.
We are in for another cool weekend and windy too. It will be sunny to start but clouds will increase from north to south.
Chilly again this morning as temperatures start in the 30s and 40s. Sunshine and a southwesterly flow will allow temperatures to climb near 70 this afternoon.
-It will be cool and dry all weekend as Canadian air will be in place through Sunday.
-The 90 degree summer-like heat will stay with us through midweek.
Today is the last day of September yet it still feels like summer and this dry and hot pattern is going to persist.
It’s the last day of the month but and as we head into October, it will remain hot and dry. Highs will stay near 90 through the middle of next week. Cooler temperatures and rain chances will be possible by the end of next week.
Rain chances will increase for some today with showers this morning mainly west of the Mississippi River and a few showers will shift east late this morning and into the afternoon.
Fall is here but it won’t feel like today with highs near 90. A weak cold front will track across the area Sunday and rain chances will increase tonight and tomorrow.
Our pattern will remain pretty dry over the next several days outside of a stray shower today with a cold front tracking through.
A stray possible for a few this morning but most will remain dry. Temperatures and humidity will stay in check this weekend for our last full weekend of summer before fall arrives on September 23rd.
High pressure will keep us dry and comfortable again today with temperatures remaining cool for September standards.
Dry and cooler air will be upon us all weekend as a cool northerly flow ensues across the Mid-South.
Warm and muggy again today with a passing shower or two but most will stay dry. Rain chances will increase Labor Day mainly for the afternoon hours.
A weak trough will move over the Mid-South and will bring the chance for a few showers or a storm with the best chance being in the afternoon and early evening.
Isolated storms will move through the area this morning and a few could linger into the afternoon thanks to a cold front. This front will also provide relief from the extreme heat we have been dealing with. A few storms this morning or afternoon could contain heavy rain and gusty winds but the severe threat is low.
It will be another day of extreme heat across the Mid-South, but thankfully cooler temperatures will arrive tomorrow.
-It was hot yesterday and today will be even hotter. An area of high pressure will strengthen and drive temperatures near record highs by midweek and humidity levels will increase too.
This weekend will be hot and dry and next week more of the same but heat will build allowing temperatures to be near or record highs.
A HEAT ADVISORY is in place again today for parts of west Tennessee that includes Memphis and Shelby County and most of north Mississippi. This means real feel temperatures could be 105-109 degrees. An Excessive Heat Warning is in place which means real feel temperatures could be 110 or greater for Lee and Phillips Counties in eastern Arkansas along with Coahoma, Tunica, and Quitman Counties in north Mississippi. In addition there is a chance of showers and storms through the afternoon and a few could be strong to severe with the primary threat being damaging wind but can’t rule out hail and heavy rainfall in any stronger storms.
A HEAT ADVISORY is in effect for part of the Mid-South through sunset. Highs will climb near 90 with sun and a few clouds. The heat index will reach as high as 109 at times this afternoon.
It will be hot and humid again today and a Heat Advisory is in place for parts of north Mississippi and for a few in eastern Arkansas. There could be multiple rounds of widely scattered storms this morning and afternoon and we could see another round of storms late tonight. Some storms will be capable of producing gusty wind, hail and heavy rainfall as a few could be strong to severe.
The pattern will remain active this weekend with periods of scattered showers and storms for today and tomorrow but it won’t be a washout.
A few isolated showers and possibly a storm this morning followed by a slight chance of a few showers and storms this afternoon. Any storms that develop this afternoon could produce brief gusty wind and heavy rainfall. Otherwise, another hot and humid day and another Heat Advisory has been issued for parts of the Mid-South through this evening.
It will stay hot and humid this weekend, but an upper level disturbance will bring the potential for a few strong to severe storms with the best chance being on Sunday.
Another comfortable day with high temperatures near 90 degrees and low humidity. There could be a stray shower that may pop up this afternoon, but the chance will be low.
