Andrew Douglas is an award-winning anchor and reporter who brings more than 25 years of journalistic experience to Memphis and the Mid-South. You can find him anchoring the morning news on WMC-TV Monday through Friday. He also anchors the Action News 5 Digital Desk, the station’s online news channel, every weekday morning.
Since 2006, Andrew has been proud to work for Action News 5, the first station to broadcast in the State of Tennessee and the first to send a broadcast TV signal into Mississippi. He loves the generosity and friendliness of Memphis. He takes his job seriously but doesn't take himself too seriously.
Andrew takes his responsibility to give back to the community seriously. In addition to his annual support of the United Way charities, he hosts and emcees events and fundraisers all across the Mid-South throughout the year. Some of them include: The Alzheimer's Association Walk for a Cure, the American Heart Association's Heart Ball, the Autism Awareness 5K, Project Green Fork's Living Local auction and fundraiser, the Memphis Oral School For the Deaf auction and fundraiser, the Boy Scouts of America, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the Greater Memphis Chamber of Commerce, Collierville Chamber events, the Memphis Business Journal's healthy food initiative and Memphis Training Camp for Dads Men’s Conference.
Andrew has been honored and recognized as one of the best news anchors in Tennessee by the Tennessee Associated Press. The Tennessee AP also honored him as one of the state's top reporters. He's received honors and awards from the Emmys and the Society of Professional Journalists. He's also earned "Best TV News Anchor" status in various reader polls among two prominent Memphis publications.
In 2012 Andrew had the great honor of attending the Summer Olympic Games in London. He spent six days filing reports from various venues, conducting live reports for the morning news and keeping an updated blog about his experiences on the station website.
Before coming to Memphis, Andrew worked at WHIO-TV in Dayton, Ohio. He earned honors and awards from the Emmys for his anchoring duties as evening weekend anchor. He also worked in the mountains of East Tennessee where he earned an Associated Press Award for his coverage of Hurricane Bonnie. His investigation into a Tennessee wedding chapel helped re-write state legislation, protecting hundreds of marriages.
Andrew was one of the first journalists hired at the 24-hour Orlando cable news station, Central Florida News 13, in 1997. He covered the NASA space program including live reports from shuttle launches and landings. That same year he covered Florida's worst ever tornado disaster. His first job out of college was in Columbus, Georgia at WRBL. He graduated from the University of Florida and began his broadcast career at WUFT-TV and WRUF-AM/FM in Gainesville.
Andrew's notable interviews include former Vice President Dick Cheney, American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, the late civil rights photographer Earnest Withers, actor John Travolta, Garth Brooks, ZZ Top, country music star Kenny Chesney and Martin Luther King III.
Andrew enjoys Beale Street, the Blues, the Memphis Grizzlies and the Memphis Tigers basketball and the world's best barbecue in Memphis! He is an active member of the Memphis Greek Community and you'll find his whole family volunteering at the Memphis Greek Festival every year. OPA!
Andrew grew up in South Florida. His wife was born and raised in Memphis. His most enjoyable honor and distinction is being a husband and father to two wonderful children.
