Joy Redmond

Joy Redmond joined Action News 5 as a morning anchor in July 2018 and has been part of the evening team since April 2022.

Joy brings close to 20 years of television journalism experience to the Mid-South and is committed to bringing joy to the evening news.

Joy was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and has worked in her hometown market at WJBK Fox 2 as a traffic anchor/reporter and also WOIO in Cleveland, Ohio. Joy was also a morning anchor at WLBT in Jackson, Mississippi, for nearly seven years. That’s where she fell in love with the Southern way of life and decided it would be fun to head north to the Bluff City to take in some Mid-South action.

Joy's first TV news job was in Duluth, Minnesota. She was a general assignment, health and feature reporter and the weekend anchor for KQDS in Duluth.

During her stint there, Joy received two Society of Professional Journalists awards, including one for an investigative piece called "High in the Hallways," which exposed the truth about teens' misuse of prescription drugs.

Joy’s TV career includes work on both sides of the camera. She interned with WXYZ and WLNS in the Michigan market, hosted various cable shows and was the announcer for her church's television and radio broadcast.

Joy is a graduate of the University of Michigan, a proud Wolverine and a fan of all her hometown sports teams (go Pistons, Lions, Tigers and Wings)! She’s excited to now be part of Grind City. Go Grizz!

Joy is an engaged member of the community, serving as hostess to numerous galas, college scholarships and awards banquets, inspirational forums and various fundraising events. She will tell you her passion is serving and getting a chance to meet viewers in person. Joy also enjoys serving as a mentor to young people.

Joy is a proud mom to one son, a daughter to two amazing parents, a sister to one incredibly cool younger brother, and shares a special bond with her family. When she’s not connecting with viewers, she loves to dine on the Bluff City’s finest culinary delights.

Joy loves fashion, in particular shoes. Her shoe collection grows exponentially as she just can’t seem to turn the other way when she sees a cute new pair calling her name.

You just might run into Joy hanging out on Beale Street, grubbing at a local eatery, or cruising down the isle of a local grocery store. Wherever you happen to see her be sure to say hello! You’ll definitely be greeted with “joy” and a big smile to match.
