MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - To mask or not to mask?

The question has been asked as COVID-19 cases continue to decline after the recent winter surge, but the answer is more simple than some would believe.

The CDC suggests that 99% of the U.S. should keep masking up since the transmission rate of the recent variants has been higher than those seen in the past.

Infectious disease expert Dr. Steve Threlkeld held a COVID-19 Q&A Wednesday and gave some insight on the current state of the pandemic and best practices to help prevent infection.

With various studies done, Dr. Threlkeld says data supports that masks cut down on transmission rates.

Dr. Threlkeld says it’s important to not politicize the idea of masks, and that they help protect you from COVID-19 regardless of your party affiliation.
